Individuals
Individuals can apply for a Basic Disclosure, or for a position in (or in anticipation of a position in) Regulated Work they can join the PVG Scheme. If you are in a position eligible for the PVG Scheme, a Standard or Enhanced disclosure, it must be countersigned by a registered body.
PLEASE NOTE: the name the applicant puts on the application form is the name that will be printed on the Disclosure Certificate. Your supporting documentation is information that helps us to carry out all necessary enquiries and checks to ensure that we are carrying out checks for the correct individual who has signed the application form. We cannot use this documentation to 'edit' the application form.
Timescales for reprinting of Basic Disclosure Certificates.
Customers should also be aware that due to system storage and data security constraints, if they wish to request a re-print of a certificate, there is a time limit of 84 days. After that date, details of applications are removed from our systems and a re-print is not possible.

Working abroad - NOTE: Change of process from 1 March 2013
If you are requested to supply a Disclosure Certificate by an organisation from abroad you should discuss this issue directly with any prospective employer/organisation.
Customers frequently seek our advice in relation to obtaining an 'Apostille' for a Basic disclosure certificate in order to satisfy the requirements of the authorities in the country where they are/will be working/living (an 'Apostille' is the legal term for the legalisation of a certificate, official proof that it is what it claims to be). Disclosure Scotland cannot directly provide an Apostille, this can only be obtained from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Foreign aonce a signature, seal or stamp on a document is checked against their database, which confirms that the document is authentic and genuine.
Once you have received your Basic disclosure certificate, if you wish it to be signed and stamped by an authorised signatory from Disclosure Scotland, who is recognized by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, then please return the certificate to us, marked for the attention of the Business Management Unit, PO Box 250 Glasgow, G51 1YU, with a covering letter detailing that you wish the enclosed certificate to be signed. There are currently 2 such registered signatories at Disclosure Scotland. The reasoning behind this is change is to further enhance system security, which will not allow manual intervention.
Overseas Applications and Posting of Certificates
Please be aware that the £25.00 cost of a Disclosure includes the cost of First Class Postage within the United Kingdom.
The need to supply application forms or indeed Disclosure Certificates outside of the UK was not envisaged, and is not reflected, in the overall cost of a Disclosure.
We currently have no agreement to send items outwith the UK. Therefore any non-UK mail is sent via Surface Mail, not Airmail, and may take time to reach their destination.
In the meantime, there is a possible alternative where customers could nominate an alternative UK postal address which they would like the forms/certificate to be sent to. Such an arrangement would need to be made with Disclosure Scotland when submitting an application.
Transgender applicants
Our application process ensures discretion for transgender applicants who do not wish their previous gender (and names) to be disclosed to the person or organisation requesting the Disclosure.
