Who pays the cost for the check?
Part V of the Police Act 1997 places the onus for payment of Disclosures on the individual applicant. However, in practice, this is not always the case.
For those applying for Basic Disclosures, it will normally be the applicant. However, some businesses or organisations, such as those in the air travel industry who require their existing or new staff to obtain a Basic Disclosure as part of their "airside pass" application, may pay for such Disclosures. Such businesses or organisations will advise you of their processes.
For those applying for Standard and Enhanced Disclosures, you should enquire with the Registered Body as to who will pay or be expected to pay for the Disclosure. It is likely that you will be advised about this by the person who requests you to complete the Disclosure application form. It could be that the Registered Body will pay the fee outright or pay for it and then claim the fee back from you after you have started work with them.
Enhanced Disclosures are free of charge for unpaid volunteers working for a "Not for Profit" organisation if these are applied for via CRBS.
Details of the Payment Methods are shown in Part D of the Disclosure application form and on the guidance notes which will be issued to applicants.
