How long are convictions held on record?
The computer systems used to record criminal history are the Criminal History System (CHS) in Scotland, and the Police National Computer (PNC) nationwide (UK). Records may be removed (or weeded) from the system using criteria relating to:-
- the seriousness of the offence;
- the age of the individual; and
- the length of time that has passed since the offence was committed.
Further information is contained on the attached Weeding document.
